A thriving coral ecosystem

Riaz Auladin

Among the easiest signs of a healthy and thriving coral reef are its beautiful colour, different sizes of fish which should include algae feeding fish and the Parrot fish. There is a need to create awareness on the importance of preserving the Parrot fish just as the sea tortoise is a protected specy. People especially fishermen need to be educated about its contribution to a healthy reef ecosystem. It is amazing how it eats dead corals and poops it converted into white sand. The dead corals eaten by the Parrot fish allows the corals to regenerate and undoubtedly the white sand they poop is what make most of our beaches so beautiful.
Hopefully my painting should raise questions as to why I have chosen to show the Parrot fish, with one in the back ground releasing white sand as it poops.
