Beautifully venomous and…?
julia.vitryThe beautiful Devil lionfish (Pterois miles), native to the Indian Ocean, is widely known for being dangerously venomous. Whilst studies have been carried out on the impacts of the Devil lionfish in regions where it has become invasive, that is in foreign regions such as the western region, few studies have been carried out about its role in its native habitat.
Indeed, studies have shown how the disappearance of terrestrial animals considered a danger to humans, such as the wolves, has a huge negative impact on their ecosystem.
Similarly, although venomous for humans, the Devil lionfish may have an important contribution to its native coral ecosystem. Protecting the species and its habitat provides an opportunity to learn more about it.
