Kinship
Maryam BaberAs neo-media artist when I observe nature with industrialization and global warming, every passing day there is strong sense of realization that our eco system need to be protected. World is losing natural species and it is not only affecting living beings on earth but also underwater inhabitant creature. In this artwork apparently amorphous shapes turn to be portraits of my BFF’S , white enamel core of dots represent the love dna and kinship as coral reef under water. As we all know “Reefs are formed of colonies of coral polyps held together by calcium, built from stony corals, whose polyps cluster in groups.” In 2009, there was a requirement of photograph for official work at university. I printed on art-card paper (little slippery surface) which usually use for calligraphy. But unexpectedly I received misprinted page which cause to happy accident. After many years, I recontextualized the same misprinted sheet and this ‘kinship’ as artwork come into being. It was journey of an object which transform into subject and celebration of error.
