‘Osmoseas’
E. Radegonde‘Osmoseas’ derives from the word ‘osmosis’ which is the movement of liquid from one part to another. Humans are one with nature. The sea is a source of leisure and food. It is the home of many species and the ‘pantry’ of terrestrial animals. The same way we love (heart shape in the background) and protect our children, we should do same for nature. When we pollute or harm mother nature (represented by a mother’s body breastfeeding a baby), we are hurting ourselves as we depend on nature to survive. Vibrant colours depict the beauty of this ecosystem and put forward the organisms, corals, shells and patterns found in the sea. These same colors also refer to pollution; the colorful plastic particles that can be found in seawater. The grey color in the different parts of the painting, represent death of corals, thus the death of many marine species that depend on corals to live. The outlined silhouettes of the bird and fish on the bottom right means that if we don’t save and protect the sea, there will be nothing left. As a result we are causing our own destruction, shown through the baby’s feet starting to fade.
