Protect & Preserve

This artwork is in relevance to the unfortunate oilspill that Mauritius had to face in 2020 due to the Wakashio ship.

“Protez bote nou losean” meaning “Protect the beauty of our ocean” and “Preserv rises nou lagon” meaning “Preserve the richness of our lagoon”. My diptych emphasises on the protection and preservation of our marine ecosystem and in doing so, we will be leaving behind a better future for the generations to come. It is high time now, more than ever.

The aquatic species depicted are covered in oil, hence the dark air bubbles floating around. This captures the essence of the oilspill and at the same time the painting illustrates perfectly the reason why the Samudra Art Prize Initiative came into existence; To celebrate Art and raise awareness of our amazing coral ecosystem.
