The title of my artwork is Samudaay ,meaning Community in Hindi.”Eventually we will realise that if we destroy the ecosystem,we destroy ourselves.”-Jonas Salk-.I’ve made use of acrylic paint to create this piece of art;to represent a whole coral ecosystem where each one of these living creatures depend on each other; variety of corals, fish, octopus and the list goes on.We must know our surroundings as Mauritians, living on an island; where on the coastal regions we see fishermen depending on nature for their survival depicted by the boat (Pirogue) and the fisherman’s portrait. Those fishes eat on the corals and algae and in turn those turtles depend on those fishes. Thus us as a community/’samudaay’ we codepend on each other, so it is of utmost importance that we promote preservation and protection of corals as these will determine whether the fish will eat as well as human beings. Moreover as a touristic destination,we should unite together to keep our environment as clean and beautiful as those warm and cool colours in the artwork.
