Survival II
lutfiyahnanhuckThe artwork depicts a patch of corals, bleached. However, the blue used on the bottom part of this artwork is very specific and intentional. I was once watching a documentary about mass coral bleaching events and close to the end, we see a strange occurrence: through the warming of oceans, corals have started fighting back, changing colours and taking on the brightest hues of yellow and blue as a way to protect itself from the heat. Their resilience and will to survive gave me chills, a feeling I wanted to convey through this painting. Above its visuals, this artwork is a beacon of hope, survival through resilience and urgency all at once.
