Mourya Pahar is an iconic mountain in our landscape and at the same time the natural habitat of a diversity of fauna and flora. This bronze sculpture depicts Shiantak’s (the village milkman) transformation to Mourya Pahar.
The tale is… Shiantak was coming home after a day of hard work, cycling all around the neighboring villages to sell milk. He was so tired that he stopped for a moment to rest, and he fell asleep. He saw fairies in beautiful white attires doing a mesmerizing dance. He was the only human ever, to see that divine dance. When the fairies saw him, he was asked to promise that he would never reveal to anyone what he saw. He promised. However, Shiantak was so overwhelmed that he related what he saw to his family. He was then cursed by the fairies and he was transformed to Mourya Pahar.
This in a way is a reminder to people about the crucial need to respect nature, failing which we are bound to bear its terrible consequences.
