Long endangered, the Round Island Boa was once found on mainland Mauritius and other islets. Recent conservation efforts have reintroduced them to Gunner's Quoin and have helped their numbers rebound - IUCN now lists them in the "vulnerable" category. In 2016 I spent a week on Round Island, filming for my nature documentary Mystic Mauritius, during which I snapped this shot at night. As they're quite small, I used my macro lens, and with the low light I had a small aperture , which led to ultra shallow depth of field, just capturing the beautiful eyes of the boa.
